Amazon Prime Video is betting big on its upcoming college drama. The streaming giant has already renewed Off Campus for a second season — and the first season hasn’t even been released yet.
The early greenlight signals strong confidence in the series, which is based on Elle Kennedy’s popular book series of the same name. Season 1 is set to debut in May 2026, giving fans of the beloved novels something significant to look forward to.
What Is ‘Off Campus’ About?
For those unfamiliar with the source material, Off Campus centers on the world of college hockey and young love. The show follows “an elite ice hockey team and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
The first season zeroes in on the love story between quiet songwriter Hannah, played by Ella Bright, and Briar University’s all-star hockey athlete Garrett, played by Belmont Camelli. That central romance, drawn from the first book in Kennedy’s series, sets the stage for what Amazon hopes will be a long-running franchise.
Why Amazon Is Moving Quickly
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, explained the decision to renew the series so far ahead of its premiere in a statement on Thursday.
“Off Campus captures the kind of emotionally charged, character-driven storytelling that truly resonates with our global Prime Video audience. With its passionate fan base, rich source material and an incredible creative team bringing Briar U to life, we knew that this series has the depth and momentum to continue beyond its first season,” Friedlander said.
The early renewal reflects the strength of the property’s built-in audience. Kennedy’s book series has cultivated a devoted readership, and bringing that world to the screen with a committed creative team clearly factored into Amazon’s calculus.
The Cast and Creative Team
Off Campus boasts an ensemble cast of young talent. Alongside Bright and Camelli, series regulars include Mika Abdalla (Allie), Antonio Cipriano (John), Jalen Thomas Brooks (Tucker), Josh Heuston (Justin, Hannah’s crush) and Stephen Kalyn (Dean).
Prime Video confirmed that Bright, Cameli, Abdalla, Kalyn, Cipriano, Brooks and Heuston are “series regulars” and will be back for season 2. The statement didn’t mention the return of any of the other confirmed Season 1 cast members.
On February 12, Prime Video uploaded a video of Off Campus creator Louisa Levy sharing the renewal news with the cast members. After the Season 1 press tour, Levy told the actors that they’re “gonna put [them] right back on a plane and send [them] back to set” for Season 2.
When Will Season 2 Come Out?
A release date for the second season has not yet been announced. However, season 1 will be out sometime in May 2026.
IMDb reports that the first season filmed from June to October 2025, so if the second season follows that schedule, viewers could see season 2 in May of 2027.
Which Story Will Season 2 Follow?
This is where things get interesting for book fans — and intriguing for newcomers. If the show follows the order of Kennedy’s books, then The Mistake would be the focus of Season 2. That story follows Antonio Cipriano’s character, John Logan, and his romance with Grace Ivers.
The premise follows Logan after having a one-night stand with freshman Grace, then pushing her away. As he tries to get back in her good graces, Logan has to make hard decisions about his future as graduation approaches. Though Logan could pursue an NHL career after college, he has to return home to take care of his troubled father.
However, there’s an open question about whether the show will stick closely to the book order. Grace hasn’t been cast for Season 1, since she doesn’t appear in The Deal. That raises the possibility that Off Campus might switch up the order of the five books, the latter of which is a series of novellas.
The Mistake is followed by The Score (Dean’s book) and The Goal (Tucker’s book). Prime Video has already revealed who’s playing the love interest to Stephen Kalyn’s Dean: Mika Abdalla. Dean and Allie’s romance doesn’t happen until Book 3, but viewers will get to know both characters in Season 1, since Allie is Hannah’s roommate and Dean is Garrett’s.
That creative decision — introducing characters from later books early in the series — suggests the showrunners may be building toward multiple storylines simultaneously rather than following a strict book-by-book approach much like Bridgerton. For readers who already know and love these characters, and for new viewers just discovering the world of Briar University, the approach could add layers of anticipation as relationships develop across seasons.
With its early renewal secured and a passionate fanbase already in place, Off Campus is shaping up to be one of Amazon Prime Video’s marquee series launches for 2026.
