The Kansas City Symphony will perform the national anthem before game six of the World Series

Major League Baseball has invited members of the Kansas City Symphony to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” as part of pre-game activities for game six of the World Series.

In a statement released Monday, executive director Frank Byrne said the Symphony is honored to take part in the event.

“We believe that Kansas City needs both major league sports and major league performing arts,” Byrne said. “We are thrilled to support the Royals on their way to victory.”

Last week, the Symphony posted a video of Michael Stern leading the Symphony and Chorus in a rousing rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” which ended with a thrilling chant of “Let’s Go, Royals!”

In a KansasCity.com poll that received coverage across the country last week, thousands of voters said they’d like opera singer Joyce DiDonato, from Prairie Village, to perform the anthem at the World Series in Kansas City.

As of Sunday night, DiDonato said she had not heard from Major League Baseball.
