Interest in Kansas City “Hamilton” tickets was expected to be high. But two days after the waiting list opened up, the numbers kind of blew us all away.

As of Tuesday, more than 4,500 people were on the list, aka “season registry,” for 2018-19 season tickets, currently the only way to get in line to see the Broadway phenomenon when it plays the Music Hall June 18-July 7, 2019.

Officials have scheduled a Facebook Live session to provide answers to fans with questions at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, on Kansas City Broadway Series’ Facebook page.

New season membership packages for 2018-19 are extremely limited, said Amy Hamm, Theater League’s senior marketing director.

“But bottom line: Rest assured, there will be single tickets available when individual tickets go on sale to the public,” Hamm said. Those tickets are expected to become available in spring 2019.

Broadway Across America and Theater League announced Sunday that “Hamilton” is the big finale to a season that includes newer offerings such as “School of Rock” and “Anastasia,” a return of “The Book of Mormon” and the old standbys “Rent” and “Evita.”

First in line will be those who renew their 2017-18 season tickets by mid-February.

The wait list is for new season subscribers who sign up at BroadwayInKC.com. Those folks will be contacted early in March if seats come available. Season tickets start at $265 for six shows.

Remaining single tickets to “Hamilton” will be sold in spring 2019. Those prices have not been announced. But in Des Moines, where “Hamilton” will play this summer, single tickets ranged from $54 to $148.50, with some premium seats going for $303.50. Those tickets sold out within hours, and resale prices now range from around $300 to more than $1,000.

The sudden wait list of 4,500 would-be season subscribers is close to the increase in season tickets from last season to the current season. That’s when Broadway Across America decided to give first shot at “Hamilton” tickets to those who bought season tickets two years before the show would play here. Subscriptions in 2016-17 were 8,582 and 12,475 in 2017-18.
