Coronavirus plays havoc with JCCC Carlsen Center’s fall concert schedule

The Carlsen Center Presents series is the latest performing arts victim of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the fall season of the Johnson County Community College series, which includes classical and popular music, dance, theater and more, has been postponed or canceled.

Emily Behrmann, general manager for series, on Monday announced a revised 2020-21 fall season that reworks events at Yardley Hall and Polsky Theatre through November. Decisions on December programming will be made in October.

“We are taking our cues from leaders in Johnson County and state of Kansas, as well as at JCCC, and for now, have kept our event schedule intact in January-May 2021,” Behrmann said. “It’s doubtful we’ll be able to offer a true season ticket package this year.”

She said series subscribers and Friends of the Carlsen Center will receive early access when tickets go on sale for the revised schedule and will retain their status for the 2021-22 season.

Darlene Love, The Romeros guitar quartet with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and Judy Collins and Arlo Guthrie will move to fall 2021. Guitarist Larry Carlton of Steely Dan and “A Night With Jon, Efren, and Jon — Napoleon Dynamite” were postponed to later this season. The dance group 10 Hairy Legshas been canceled.
