Kansas Citians can start the 4th of July festivities early on July 3 at the Morton Amphitheater, packing four events into one free, family-friendly night.

The free public debut of the amphitheater quadruples as World Cup watch party. The third annual Riverside ArtWalk and a celebration of Riverside’s 75th anniversary offers locally made art to view or purchase. A kids zone with plentiful activities and big screens will display both the 5 p.m. Miami-based soccer match and 8:30 p.m. round of 32 match hosted in Kansas City.

Art Garden KC Executive Assistant Morgen Agesen invites the entire community to the new venue at 6150 Northwest Music Blvd. The community pride event is free to attend, including free parking. Luckily, the Mort can accommodate up to 12,000 guests.

It kicks off at 3:30, when the kids zone opens.

Children can play carnival games, climb into bounce houses, get face paint, participate in a scavenger hunt and watch a special appearance from KC Bubble Parties.

For other attendees, there are attractions like a soccer zone, 24-person video game trailer, selfie stations, a giant 20-foot soccer ball created by local artists Eric Winter and Zach Olberding, four full-size soccer superstars painted by local artist Jeff Parson, a giant roller skate installation and food trucks.

The kids zone closes at 7:30, but attendees can peruse handcrafted pottery, fine art, jewelry, candles and clothing brought by Kansas City artists and makers until 8 p.m.

Rolling several events into one makes for an event catered to just about anyone, says Morgen Agesen, executive assistant of Art Garden KC.

“We’re so grateful to the Riverside Chamber and Go North KC for inviting us to host our 3rd Annual Riverside ArtWalk,” Agesen said. “You can bring the kids to play, grab dinner from a food truck, shop local artists, watch World Cup action on the big screen, and finish the night with fireworks.”

The night finishes off with a bang at 10:45 with a fireworks display, ushering in the 4th of July weekend.
