8 unique things to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Kansas City

Valentine’s Day generally conjures up visions of cards, candy, flowers and romantic dinners.

But perhaps you are the creative type and are looking for a different way to enjoy the day with (or without) that special someone. If so, the Kansas City area offers several options.

Here are eight unique ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Old Red Bridge Love Locks

When: 5 a.m.-midnight daily

Where: The Old Red Bridge at Minor Park, Red Bridge Road between Holmes Road and Blue River Road

What: Attach a lock to the bridge to commemorate your love for free.

When: 5-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, noon-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, noon-9 p.m. Sunday; through March 1

Where: KC Wheel, 2485 Jefferson St.

What: Get a drink included with your ticket while soaring above the Kansas City skyline for $17.50.

What: Authors and vendors specializing in horror and dark romances will be on hand. It’s free with donation of feminine products or pregnancy aids; otherwise $2.

When: 2-4 p.m. Feb. 14

What: There will be two-for-one admission ($8, with free skate rental) .

When: 6 and 8:30 p.m. Feb. 14

Where: Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium, 6800 Zoo Drive

What: Enjoy local actors performing comedy skits and learn about some of the animal kingdom’s most interesting mating rituals. $50-$150.
