Oscar-winning actor will lend famous voice to Kansas City Symphony this fall

Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman will bring his familiar voice and one of his passions to Kansas City for a unique concert in September.

Freeman will narrate as the Kansas City Symphony performs with blues musicians during “Morgan Freeman Presents: Symphonic Blues” Sept. 2-3 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

The touring show will feature live music and cinematic storytelling, taking audiences on a journey through the music, culture and legacy of the Mississippi Delta, the birthplace of the blues. Freeman grew up and still lives there, and he co-founded the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in 2001.

Freeman, 87, won an Academy Award for supporting actor in “Million Dollar Baby” and has earned four other Oscar nominations, including for “Driving Miss Daisy” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” He has provided the voice of God in several movies and has narrated countless shows and documentaries.

Tickets will be available starting Sunday, April 27, to people who have purchased both Classical and Pops subscriptions for the symphony’s 2025-26 season, which does not include the Symphonic Blues performance. Single-show tickets will go on sale at a later date.

Subscription packages for the season, which will kick off Sept. 19, are on sale now. More information at kcsymphony.org.
