Kansas City’s Van Gogh show a ‘No Gogh’ until February; producer cites venue issue
A long-awaited art installation highlighting the works of the world renowned post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh is being postponed for another two months.
Opening night for the show, “Immersive Van Gogh,” was scheduled for Dec. 1, followed by a four-week run, though organizers had yet to name a venue they were keeping secret. Show producer Corey Ross said in a statement Monday that the opening has been delayed “due to challenges in finding a suitable venue.”
The show, a three-dimensional celebration of the artist’s work and life, is promised to open on Feb. 28 — at an as-of-yet unknown location.
“Exemplary customer service is our top priority, and we are working hard to confirm our venue. We can say with confidence that we will open to patrons by Feb. 28,” Ross said in the email. “In the meantime, we are contacting ticketholders to reschedule them to an alternate date, or refund their purchase if they are unable to attend.”
The show aims to offer visitors a way to step inside the works of Van Gogh. It includes 500,000 cubic feet of projection, 60,600 video frames and 90,000,000 pixels to create a 360-degree walk-through experience that is special to the Kansas City installation.
Corey Ross, the show’s producer, told The Star in May that people shouldn’t expect it to be in a museum or established place where folks have gone before.
The show first opened in Toronto in 2020 and has since been featured in 16 U.S. cities. Shows have been postponed by the company in other cities recently, including Boston, Seattle and Detroit.
Immersive Van Gogh is one of two art exhibits featuring the famous painter in Kansas City. The other is Van Gogh Alive: The Experience, on display in the Starlight Theater through the end of December.
