Royals fan remakes ‘Dear Future Husband’ music video with three daughters

As a kid, Nikos Kellepouris loved going to Kauffman Stadium with his dad.

“I grew up a Royals fan,” says Kellepouris, who lives in Olathe. “For me, it was more than baseball, it was a family thing.”

After Kansas City’s home team took the crown last year, Kellepouris and his wife, Denise — also a huge baseball fan — celebrated by making a music video starring daughters Brevyn, 8, Celise, 6 and Larkin, 2.

Kellepouris started by rewriting the words to one of his daughters’ favorite songs, “Dear Future Husband” by Meghan Trainor. The lyrics include “Take me to the game/I deserve The K” and “I never miss a game/I love Lorenzo Cain.”

The song also name-drops Salvador Perez, Alex Gordon, Alcides Escobar, Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer.

“You gotta know all the names of the players,” it goes, “even when nobody cares.”

Kellepouris enlisted a friend, Kayla Mellinger, to record the new lyrics. The video features the girls decked out in blue Royals gear as they lip-sync and dance in front of a blue fountain in downtown Olathe. They also show off their batting skills at a local ballpark.

The family posted the video to Youtube last month. On the morning of April 20, it had more than 1,400 views, and the top comment read “Cute! Cute! Cute! And I’m a Cardinals fan.”

Kellepouris, who is barely old enough to remember watching the 1985 World Series with his dad, says it was surreal and emotional watching the 2015 World Series with his daughters.

“It was a big-time emotional roller coaster,” he says. “I got to relive all these memories with my kids.”
