George Takei to join Stan Lee at Planet Comicon Kansas City
Trekkies rejoice. Lt. Sulu is coming.
Planet Comicon Kansas City announced Tuesday that George Takei, aka Hikaru Sulu of the USS Enterprise in "Star Trek," will appear at the convention in May.
He will join former Marvel Comics publisher Stan Lee, whose appearance at the event was announced last month. It will be Lee's first time at Planet Comicon.
Takei, 78, is still acting and directing. He just closed "Allegiance," a Broadway musical based on his childhood in a Japanese-American internment camp during World War II. He is also an avid activist with huge followings on Facebook (9.5 million likes) and Twitter (1.8 million followers). Fans can enter to win a Fast Pass package to meet Takei.
Lee — who helped create and co-create hundreds of superheroes, including Iron Man, Thor and Incredible Hulk — is a special guest at the May 20-22 event at Bartle Hall. He is scheduled to sign autographs, pose for photos and appear on stage for a Q&A session, according to Planet Comicon’s website. Lee is 93.
“Every year the show gets better,” said Planet Comicon Kansas City founder and CEO Christopher Jackson in a statement. “We are incredibly excited and truly honored to have Stan Lee coming to Kansas City. He is a visionary who has brought a whole pantheon of modern mythology to life.”
Fans are already psyched.
