Gillian Flynn will flip the switch on Plaza Lights
Gillian Flynn, this is your year in Kansas City.
After serving as grand marshal of the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March, the best-selling author and Kansas City native will return to throw the switch at the 86th annual KCP&L Plaza Lighting Ceremony on Thanksgiving night.
The 44-year-old graduate of Bishop Miege High School, whose novel “Gone Girl” was adapted into a hit movie last year, now resides in Chicago with her husband and two children.
The Plaza Lighting ceremony is from 6 to 7 p.m Nov. 26 — with the flip of the switch at 6:54 p.m.
Other celebrities who have done the honors include Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis, Kate Spade, Maurice Green, Walter Cronkite, George Brett, Buck O’Neil, David Cook, Lee Greenwood, Oleta Adams and Eric Stonestreet. Last year, Royals left fielder Alex Gordon and the team’s general manager, Dayton Moore, shared the duties.
Meanwhile, Flynn is busy working on two projects with director David Fincher: “Strangers,” a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock thriller “Strangers on a Train,” starring Ben Affleck; and “Utopia,” a remake of the British sci-fi TV series.
