Bruce Willis’ Mom Has Been LAPD Volunteer for 22 Years — and She Never Name-Drops Her Son

Bruce Willis is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars. But inside the LAPD’s West LA station, it’s his mother who commands the room.

Marlene Willis, known simply as “Mrs. Willis,” is 90 years old and has spent the last 22 years volunteering at the station. She shows up on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, reviewing police reports, making notes and checking grammar, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Her dedication has made her far more than a familiar face. Officers say her presence alone puts smiles on their faces, and some say they don’t know what they’d do without her.

“Mrs. Willis is a very integral part of West Los Angeles and the LAPD. She is an icon here,” said Captain Rich Gabaldon, the West LA station commanding officer.

Bruce Willis’ Mom Does More Than Just Paperwork

Mrs. Willis’ role at the station extends well beyond administrative tasks. When officers return from difficult incidents, she often approaches them and gives them a hug — a simple gesture that those in the station say carries enormous weight.

“I want to help so much, so much. You have no idea. You cannot imagine how much I want to help,” Mrs. Willis said.

For her, the officers and staff at the West LA station aren’t just colleagues. They’re something deeper.

“This is my family. I mean that 100%,” she said, referring to the LAPD.

That commitment has not gone unnoticed. Mrs. Willis has been named the LAPD Volunteer of the Year in the past, a recognition of more than two decades of steady service.

Bruce Willis’ Mom Receives LAPD Badge of Honor

Former LAPD Chief Michel Moore went a step further in honoring Mrs. Willis, presenting her with an official LAPD badge as a special recognition.

“While I can’t make her a cop, I can at least give her the greatest symbol of what it means to be a cop. And that is a badge of the law center police department,” Moore said.

Moore, now retired and living in Tennessee, called her the volunteer he will never forget in an interview with NBC Los Angeles.

“I think she means the very best of people that are individuals who believe in the work that our men and women do,” Moore said.

He also delivered a personal tribute to Mrs. Willis. “Marlene, there are people in our lives that when you cross their path; they leave a lasting impression,” he said.

“You are one that has risen to the top of one of the best impressions. To you and the work you do, we will be forever grateful,” he added.

Mrs. Willis Never Mentions Her Famous Son

Perhaps the most striking thing about Mrs. Willis is what she doesn’t talk about. Despite being the mother of one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars, she never mentions her son Bruce or involves him in her work at the station.

“She was never one to wear her identity as his mother on her sleeve or even involve him in even passing references of her life, which impressed me,” Moore said.

The only hint of her famous connection sits quietly on her desk. Mrs. Willis’ computer screensaver shows Bruce Willis hugging her — a private reminder of a bond she keeps separate from her volunteer life.

She has other children and grandchildren in addition to Bruce Willis, but at the West LA station, she is known entirely on her own terms.

For more than two decades, Mrs. Willis has shown up, done the work and made the people around her feel valued. At 90 years old, she remains a fixture at the station — not because of her last name, but because of who she is.
