In 2025, streaming platforms continued to dominate entertainment, but the year's most-watched original shows revealed an unexpected trend-every top performer was a returning favorite rather than a new release.
According to around six years of Nielsen data through November 2025, which was analyzed by Bloomberg, the biggest hits of 2025 were familiar titles that audiences couldn't stop revisiting.
At the top of the list is Netflix's global phenomenon Squid Game, which recorded 18.6 billion minutes of view time while in the weekly top 10 ranking. The Korean survival drama first captivated audiences in 2021, and its staying power is undeniable. The first season remains Netflix's biggest show of all time, holding the record for the highest number of views in the first 90 days of its release. Even years later, Squid Game continues to dominate streaming charts.
Second place belongs to Wednesday, Netflix's gothic comedy centered on the iconic Addams Family character. With 16.4 billion minutes streamed in 2025, the series proves its enduring popularity. To date, Wednesdayhas accumulated 41.1 billion minutes of view time, making it the fourth most-watched original series of the decade so far. Its debut season also holds the title of Netflix's most-viewed English-language show of all time in its first 90 days.
In third place is Love Island, the reality dating show that continues to attract viewers, racking up 11.4 billion minutes of streaming time. Following closely is Amazon's Reacher, the action-packed thriller that secured 10.2 billion minutes. These series demonstrate that both unscripted drama and high-octane storytelling have lasting appeal.
Netflix's Ginny & Georgia, an American comedy-drama, claimed the fifth spot with 10.1 billion minutes streamed. Meanwhile, Love Is Blind, Netflix's hit reality dating experiment, ranked sixth with 9.4 billion minutes. Notably, Love Is Blind is also the third most-streamed original show of the decade so far, with 50.6 billion minutes of view time since its debut.
In a crowded streaming landscape, these series show that the biggest hits aren't always the newest and audiences gravitate toward established favorites, suggesting that longevity and cultural resonance may matter more than novelty.
