It’s film festival season, and Kansas City’s getting its own taste of the action on the silver screen.

The Kansas City FilmFest International showcase is back at the AMC theater in Ward Parkway from April 25 through 28. Featuring documentaries, narratives and shorts from the United States and worldwide, there’s something for everyone.

Take a look at some of the films being shown during the week below:

  • Short films made by documentary journalism students at Mizzou. These tackle topics such as immigration, Hollywood’s depiction of the Old West and collaborating in a time of social distance. You can see these starting at 4:05 p.m. on April 25.

  • “The Big Bend,” a narrative featuring two families who test the boundaries of marriage, friendship and parenthood while exploring one of the U.S.’ wildest places. It’s showing at 7:30 p.m. on April 26.

  • You can see “Class of COVID-19,” a documentary exploring the challenges students, teachers and families faced during the pandemic, at 5:25 p.m. on April 27.

  • “Keep The Cameras Rolling: The Pedro Zamora Way,” a film that chronicles Zamora’s impact as he continued to appear on MTV’s “The Real World” following an AIDS diagnosis. You can see this at 7:25 p.m. on April 28.

You can check out the full list of films here by selecting “check out the schedule” underneath the “buy individual tix” tab on the home page. Tickets for each film cost $10, and you’ll buy those by clicking “buy tickets” when you’re viewing the schedule.

You can also buy a gold pass for $45 and receive tickets for all the films you want to see.

IS THAT THE ONLY FILM FESTIVAL?

If that doesn’t satisfy your hunger for movies, Screenland Armour is hosting Panic Fest, a film festival celebrating all things horror and scaring the life out of moviegoers. Panic Fest runs from April 28 to May 8, picking up where KC FilmFest International leaves.

The festival kicks off April 28 with a showing of “Bubba Ho-Tep,” hosted by The Last Drive-In’s Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl at 7 p.m., Although that’s sold out, you can catch “The Hatching,” a film about a 12-year-old girl who finds a mysterious egg, right after. Tickets for this film can be purchased here. Tickets to every movie available during Panic Fest cost $15.

From there, you can take your pick of theatrical and virtual films. No matter which one you pick, you won’t be left out. Check out some of the movies on tap below:

  • “Crabs!,” a film about mutated horseshoe crabs taking over a town, hits the theater at 4:45 p.m. on April 29. Tickets for this showing can be found here.

  • “Watcher,” hits the big screen at 11 a.m. on April 30 and it’s about a young woman who feels that she and her fiance are being stalked by someone near their new apartment. If this interests you, buy tickets here.

  • A virtual showing of “To The Moon,” which begins as a weekend of healing for a couple and later turns into distorted reality. It’s on at 7:15 p.m. on May 2 and you can pre-order your viewing here.

  • Pre-order “When I Consume You,” here, which is about siblings seeking revenge against an evil force that’s tormented them since they were kids.

The Best of Fest, highlighting fan-favorite films from the week, runs from May 5-7 to close out the festival.

WHERE CAN I BUY TICKETS?

You can buy a hybrid pass, which includes virtual and in-person movies, for $175 here. The virtual-only pass costs $115 and can be purchased here. Individual movie tickets can be bought here or in-person at the box office.

Enjoy the shows.
