Looking to ice skate this winter? Kansas City has plenty of options

It’s the season for cool weather, bright lights and ice skating. Odds are, you can get all three of those at the same time right now in Kansas City.

While you may not be moving around like Apollo Anton-Ohno or as graceful as Johnny Weir, it’s fun to go skate around with friends or family. Here are a few ice rinks open in the area for the winter.

CROWN CENTER ICE TERRACE

Located in the upper corner near SeaLife and Legoland, you’ll find the Crown Center Ice Terrace, Kansas City’s public ice skating rink. The 49th season is underway and runs until March 13.

It’s open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. It costs $8 for adults and children ages 4 and older, while it’s free for children ages 4 and under. Ice skate rental is $4 and season passes cost $90.

THE RINK AT ZONA ROSA

The Northland’s newest ice rink is open for the winter season. It’s open daily until Feb. 2022 for public skating, pond hockey, special events and more.

It’s open for skating Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Pond hockey happens after open skating on Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, it’s scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., with an additional time on Sunday from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Admission is $11 for anyone ages 3 and up and skate rental is $4. The after school pass goes from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is $9. The open pond is $12. Ice hockey skates and sticks cost $4.

THE ICE AT PARK PLACE

Leawood’s only outdoor rink is open every day until Feb. 27, weather permitting. It’s packed with shops, restaurants and seasonal festivities, such as Skating with Santa and Valentine’s Day Skate.

It’s on holiday hours now, which means it’s open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Jan. 4. After the holiday, it’s open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Friday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Admission is $11 for anyone ages 3 and up and skate rental is $4. The after school session goes from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is $9. It doesn’t apply during holiday hours or school breaks.
