AMC to offer tickets at 1920s prices when it reopens movie theaters in KC area
Moviegoers will get a 2020 ticket for 1920s prices when AMC theaters reopen on Aug. 20.
The Leawood based company will offer tickets for 15 cents as part of a reopening promotion announced Thursday.
AMC theaters have been closed for five months as part of efforts to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.
More than 100 theaters will raise their curtains on Aug. 20 as part of AMC’s phased reopening plan, the company said in a news release.
About two-thirds of the company’s 600-plus screens will be showing films by Sept. 3. The remainder will open after authorization from state and local officials.
Most Kansas City-area AMC theaters will reopen on Aug. 20: Ward Parkway 14 and Barrywoods 24 in Kansas City, Independence Commons 20 in Independence, Studio 28 in Olathe and Town Center 20 in Leawood.
AMC’s Legends 14 in Kansas City, Kansas, and Prairiefire 17 in Overland Park open their doors Aug. 27.
The return to the movies will come with certain guidelines and restrictions in place during the ongoing pandemic.
Masks are required for all workers and guests, though they can be taken off when eating or drinking inside the theater. Guests are also asked to maintain the recommended six feet of social distance.
This social distancing extends to the auditoriums, which are currently capped at 30% capacity, with some even lower, depending on the city’s guidelines.
“We are thrilled to once again open our doors to American moviegoers who are looking for an opportunity to get out of their houses and apartments and escape into the magic of the movies,” Adam Aron, CEO and President of AMC Theatres, said in a statement.
