Oklahoma-born Summer Wheat, whose works are in the collections of major art institutions around the country, will debut several new paintings and drawings created for this exhibition. Using a process of pushing paint through aluminum mesh, Wheat creates large-scale paintings that resemble medieval tapestries showing female figures as hunters, fishers and beekeepers. “Forever Plaid”

First performed off-Broadway in 1989, “Forever Plaid” is the original jukebox musical and one of the most popular musicals ever written. Israeli-American violin legend Pinchas Zukerman will take part in the continuing Celebration of Isaac Stern by the Kansas City Symphony and conductor Michael Stern, Isaac’s son. Zuckerman will put his virtuosic gifts on display with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Janáček’s “The Fiddler’s Child” and Mozart’s Symphony No. 39. “Come From Away”

The Kansas City Broadway Series will present the 2017 Tony Award-winning musical “Come From Away,” which has become the longest-running Canadian musical in Broadway history. It is based on events that took place in the aftermath of 9/11, when 38 planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, where residents housed and fed 6,700 stranded travelers.
