Your mega guide to KC Halloween events: Haunted houses, corn mazes, parades, parties
The child in all of us emerges at Halloween.
There are Halloween events across the Kansas City area designed for any age: from haunted houses that will scare the bejabbers out of even the most hardened of adults (Edge of Hell, Beast and Macabre Cinema in the West Bottoms) to fun outings for the littlest of kids (Hoots and Howls at the Kansas City Zoo and Brick or Treat at Legoland Discovery Center).
Events designed for all ages, on the other hand, are more difficult to find.
But Halloween activities that will entertain parents and children alike do exist.
One will be at Powell Gardens, with Glow: The Magic of Nature on Oct. 19-20. The Grand Hall will contain a magical hangout for witches and wizards, a special event tent will offer music, cocktails, food trucks and children’s activities and a mile-long walking path will feature jack-o-lantern displays and spooky surroundings.
The Louisburg Cider Mill will offer its traditional Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch throughout the Halloween season, but it also will celebrate its ninth annual Burning Scarecrow on Oct. 20. In addition to a bonfire, it will include live music, hayrides and a chance to go through the maze in the dark (with flashlights).
Finally, the Overland Park Orchestra will present a free Halloween concert Oct. 27 at Johnson County Community College’s Yardley Hall. Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite should delight the adults, and a costume parade will entertain the kids.
