Sarah Hyland reveals that her ‘Modern Family’ character is bisexual

“Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland spilled a little secret on Twitter Wednesday about her character, Haley Dunphy.

When one of her Twitter followers asked her to confirm that Haley is bisexual, Hyland did.

“I don’t know what the writers would say? But I confirm,” she tweeted.

People notes that neither the show’s writers, nor co-creator Steve Levitan, have responded to Hyland’s declaration. Media outlets including The Wrap reached out to representatives of the show for comment and have not heard back.

Haley dates often on the show, but up until now all nine of her boyfriends over nine seasons of the ABC comedy have been men, People notes. Her on-again-off-again boyfriend Dylan is played by openly gay actor Reid Ewing.

Fans were excited to hear the news about Haley.

Off camera, Hyland tweeted a few weeks ago that she broke up with longtime boyfriend Dominic Sherwood. The rumor mill suggests she is dating “The Bachelorette” alum Wells Adams.

Also on Wednesday, Hyland slammed Life & Style magazine in an angry tweet about a story alleging she’s had plastic surgery.
