The week that was: Deadly ‘Walking Dead,’ J.Lo in a live ‘Bye Bye Birdie’
Welcome to our weekly recap of the world of pop culture, the Week That Was, in which we rank from Huzzah! to Hmmm … to Horrors! the most notable achievement of each day.
Here we go:
SUNDAY: Huzzah! About 17 million people tune in to watch the Season 7 premiere of “The Walking Dead,” and 30 minutes in 17 million say they’ll never watch again — until next week.
MONDAY: Horrors! R.I.P., singer Bobby Vee.
TUESDAY: Huzzah! To celebrate Halloween (and lure back disenchanted fans), Pokemon Go starts handing out more spooky critters and “candies.” And none of it harms your teeth (just your brain).
WEDNESDAY: Hmm … After 30 years apart, Swedish pop band ABBA announces a 2017 reunion that somehow involves virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Everybody sing: “So when you’re near me, darling can’t you hear me: S.O.S.”
THURSDAY: Hmmm. NBC says Jennifer Lopez will star in its 2017 live holiday musical, “Bye Bye Birdie.” Everybody sing: “Gray skies are going to clear up, put on a puzzled face …”
FRIDAY: Hmmm. His spaceship malfunctions in “Apollo 13.” His plane crashes in “Cast Away” and “Sully.” And now in “Inferno” he faces a virus that could destroy humanity. That Tom Hanks is nothing but trouble.
