The threat of severe thunderstorms in the Kansas City area will increase Monday afternoon and evening as storms currently over central Kansas move eastward.
The first round of storms could reach the metropolitan area, as well as eastern Kansas and western Missouri, as soon as 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
A few of those storms could be strong to severe and are capable of producing small hail.
The greater chance for severe weather, however, is expected for Monday evening, when additional thunderstorms are expected to develop across the metro area.
The main threat from these storms is damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service. Some localized flooding is also possible.
People are being urged to be aware of the changing weather conditions Monday.
