Sporting KC’s Graham Zusi chases after a ball during a match in 2014. The Kansas City Star

Here’s what Graham Zusi has accomplished thus far in his career: Two-time NCAA champion with Maryland, MLS Breakout Player of the Year, MVP finalist, Best XI selection, league leader in assists in 2012, MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup winner, three-time All-Star, a sweet (and deserved) Designated Player contract, and “never-has-to-buy-his-own-beer-in-KC” status.

For good measure, the midfielder was part of the U.S. men’s World Cup team last summer (and would be part of the U.S. camp currently — and maybe unavailable for this position — if he wasn’t recovering from a foot injury).

All of that is all well and good, but Zeus has a new title now. A more important title: Minsky’s Pizza Gourmet Pizza Czar.

(Cauldron, you’re on notice: There better be a “Let’s Eat” pizza banner in the works for this season.)

I really hope that the new title entitles him to as many barbecue chicken pizzas as he desires. Or, it allows him to put his on-field creativity to use dreaming up new “gourmet” pizzas that involve bacon and guacamole. (But, maybe not together.)

But that will have to wait until the postseason because I’m pretty sure pizza carbs don’t mix with whatever insanity this preseason workout is.

All hail Zeus the midfield maestro, pizza czar and maker of crazy rope waves.
