Doubleheader time: Two big soccer matches hit KC this weekend
With FC Kansas City playing on Friday and Sporting Kansas City in town on Saturday, this will be the first weekend that Kansas City hosts two big soccer matches this season.
Are you ready for soccer hipster weekend in Kansas City? This weekend, we'll have our first back-to-back soccer nights with FC Kansas City and Sporting Kansas City both at home.* For good measure, both teams are hosting a fine team from the hotbed of North American soccer, the Pacific Northwest. *It will happen at least two more times: On Memorial Day weekend, The Blues will take on Sky Blue FC on Friday while Sporting KC hosts Houston Saturday. Then later this summer, SKC hosts Columbus on June 29th (Saturday) with FC KC taking on Portland on June 30th (Sunday). FC Kansas City will kick things off at the Shawnee Mission District Stadium against the Seattle Reign tonight at 7:35 p.m. The Blues had an unscheduled bye week last weekend after the Boston Breakers match was postponed. (That game has been rescheduled for July 24.) To read up on tonight's game, check out Sam McDowell's preview . Seattle will be without two of its big names -- Hope Solo is out injured; Megan Rapinoe is finishing out her contract in France. The good times continue on Saturday, with Sporting hosting the Portland Timbers (7:30) to start a three-game homestead. It could be a raucous night -- Robb Heineman even tweeted out that we might be headed for the largest Saturday night crowd in Sporting Park history.
