The United States Soccer Federation announced on Wednesday that GolTV will broadcast the U.S. Open Cup Final between Sporting Kansas City and the Seattle Sounders next week at Livestrong Sporting Park. The cable network will broadcast the final for the next three years.
Since 2006, the Fox Soccer Channel had been home to the tournament. GolTV previously broadcast the finals in 2004 (the last time KC appeared in the final) and 2005.
There will be no local English broadcast -- on TV or radio -- for the match.
GolTV is soccer-specific channel (most often broadcasting in Spanish) that resides in the upper tier of most cable packages.
In Kansas City: Time Warner carries GolTV (ch. 344) as part of its TWC Sports Pass, SureWest carries it (ch. 489) on the Digital Sports tier and DirecTV broadcasts it (ch. 620) also on its Sports Pack tier.
• The Major League Soccer Player's Union updated its 2012 salary information today, with only two changes from the data released in May.
Recently added Serbian defender Neven Markovic will make $90,000 in base salary for Sporting KC. Locally-grown defender/midfielder Kyle Miller will make $33,750. (The team waived defender Shawn Singh to make room on the roster for Markovic.)
