Sporting News: Diop waived, no USA at LSP, reserve match moved

Well, lots of small items of news tonight. Here's a recap.

The Sporting KC reserves will play the Houston Dynamo today at 11 a.m. at the Swope Park Training Facility. The match was originally scheduled for this evening at Livestrong Sporting Park.

The match is free for all to attend.

Speaking of matches at Livestrong Sporting Park -- this weekend's semifinals of CONCACAF Men's Olympic qualifying will not feature the United States, who were eliminated after a very late goal by El Salvador on Monday night.

El Salvador, Mexico and Canada have already qualified for the semifinals. Honduras, Panama and Trinidad Tobago are still vying for the last spot.

The news only gets worse (at least, for The Full 90): Sporting Kansas City waived Birahim Diop.

He may not register much for many fans, but those who covered training (or were present and counted as doubters during "The Diop Game"), he was perhaps a little more than that. He was a guy who, for often unexplainable reasons, could conjure absolute craziness (like the two Diop games). Or he could give you absolutely nothing (like most of last year).

I could watch goal #3 all night long if I had the time.

But, no matter what happened or how is form was, he was always at training. Always busting his butt. Always smiling. Always trying these weird little tricks -- and making them work.

Diop spent two years with Sporting Kansas City. He logged 32 appearances, 5 goals and 2 assists in that time.
