The Full 90

Comets to take on Silver Knights to close four-game road trip

(From the Comets press release)

The last stop on the Comets’ December east coast tour is this Friday at the Syracuse Silver Knights. It’s been 3 weeks since these two teams saw each other last, when the Comets convincingly beat the Silver Knights at home 23-10. Since then, the Comets have gone on the road for three straight games, winning 2 of them. Behind team scoring leaders Geison, Vahid Assadpour and Byron Alvarez, the Comets have scored 36 points and are the highest scoring team in the league.

The team is coming off a tough loss to the Eastern Conference leading Baltimore Blast last weekend. Missing two key players in Brian Harris and Byron Alvarez, the Comets fought hard, but couldn’t solve the mystery that is Baltimore’s goalkeeper Sagu. Comets goalkeeper Danny Waltman thinks his team is ready to rebound this weekend, “the guys have been practicing hard this week. We know that we if we play up to our potential we could do something special this year.”

Despite the lopsided score in their last matchup with the Comets, Syracuse is not a team to be taken lightly. Forward Slavisa Ubiparapovic is 3rd in the league with 32 points and defenders Ryan Pierce (22) and Nelson Santana (21) lead the league in defensive blocks. To beat the Silver Knights the Comets will need its star players to step up offensively, while getting support from midfielders Lucas Rodriguez and John Sosa. A great matchup to watch will be the 5’10” Ubiparapovic battling against 6’1” Ryan Junge in the corners. Junge has a few inches and about 40 lbs on his opponent, but will it be enough to slow down Ubiparapovic’s firepower?

The best way to kick off your holidays would be with us this Friday, December 23rd at the BrewTop Pub & Patio in Lee’s Summit, the Official Watch Party of the Comets. Kickoff is at 6:30pm Central.
