The Full 90

MatchDay #22: Flirting with disaster

I'm not going to sugar-coat this -- I don't have a good feeling about tonight's game.

Kansas City is short of players to fill Aurelien Collin's popped-collar spot in the starting XI. Or, more accurately, they are short of players who can

fill Collin's boots. Daneil Cyrus had a poor showing on Saturday, Julio Cesar hasn't started back there in three months and Shavar Thomas is Shavar Thomas.

But, oh, if that were the only issue.

Sporting is having trouble scoring. Against everybody but Toronto, Kansas City have managed to score more than one goal only four times during its 13-game unbeaten streak.

Kansas City is also finding a bit of trouble getting out of the blocks in the first half, an issue that has doomed them to several 1-1 draws in July.

To make matters worse, Real Salt Lake is coming to Kansas City ticked off after a solid 2-0 drubbing at the hands of Columbus this weekend. Jason Kreis and company are also unlikely to have forgotten the

apparent brawl

that Roger Espinoza may have started in the preseason.

This is also the first regular-season matchup of Major League Soccer's two most European-sounding teams. Should make for a fun night on Twitter.

I'm out of breath just from typing all of that.

This could turn out to be a very interesting night at the tinderbox that is LSP. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. (The game will be broadcast on KSMO-TV with Callum Williams and Jake Yadrich on the mics.)
