Graham Zusi can sneak up on the MLS no longer. On Friday he was named the North American Soccer Reporter's MLS Player of the Month for June. Zusi recorded three game-winning assists and scored two goals (one of them a free kick from near the half line). “Overall, the past month or so we’ve been getting some great results and luckily I’ve been able to help play my part,” Zusi said in a press release from the team. “I’m very happy with the way I’m playing right now and I hope that I continue to make an impact for the team in front of all our great fans at Livestrong Sporting Park.”
The 24-year-old had only one goal and one assist in his MLS career prior to June. Sporting KC went 3-0-2 with him in the lineup last month. Sporting Kansas City, unbeaten in their last seven MLS matches, also allowed only two goals in Zusi’s five appearances in June.
Zusi becomes the eighth Sporting Kansas City player to be chosen Player of the Month all-time and first since Eddie Johnson in 2007. The MLS Player of the Month is selected after each month by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
