The Full 90

Semi-Live Blog: The Gold Cup doubleheader

Doing something a little different tonight in honor the Gold Cup and our fine press credentials: A live blog. Sporadically throughout the night I'll update this space with photos, thoughts, analysis and whatever else I find interesting.

Hope you guys can follow along.

2:58 p.m.

As soon as I hit the parking lot, Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" ended. I love that song.

3:14 p.m.

The tailgate was already going strong by the time I arrived today. Not surprising. I've heard that the Kansas City chapter of the American Outlaws doesn't stop. Is that correct? You tell me.

A game of keepy-uppy in Lot F before the Panama-Canada game at Livestrong Sporting Park.

Some great costumes already.

As if 90 degrees wasn't hot enough, these two USA fans were decked out in full masked regalia with flag capes. Get them some water if you're out there. Recorded a telephone interview for a San Jose Earthquakes podcast. I'm a whirlwind multi-media force now.

4:30 p.m.

Found my seat for the night. I'm not a "multi-media force." I'm relegated to an outside seat. Can't complain about the view... but the heat! Oh, the heat.

4:52 p.m.

I suppose it was the natural evolution, but you can't have stadium music without auto-tune apparently. We're six songs into the stadium music selection and I've not recognized a single song and not a single song featured the natural voice of the singer. Do I sound like an old man yet?

Off to the Member's Club to get some more insight for you.

5:05 p.m.

Took a minor detour when the words "Hey, there's food here." Nothing makes a journalist move like food. It was baked chicken, potatoes, salad and a cookie (or 2).

5:10 p.m.

You know, it's really quite a long walk to get from the West Plaza to the Member's Club. Just saying.

5:11 p.m.

I can't find any Guadeloupe fans.

But I did find this awesome pre-2000s design Guadeloupe shirt.

Oh, wait. That's a brand new shirt? Um... that's not awesome.

5:12 p.m.

Really?

A David Beckham jersey?

Really? I mean, he's a kid ... so I'll give him a pass.

5:15 p.m.

The Member's Stand... surprisingly dead.

5:27 p.m.

Sporting Kansas City president Robb Heineman -- in a USA jersey and shorts -- was making his rounds in the Member's Stand. Two fans paused to pat him on the back and say "Thank You."

5:30 p.m.

Heineman said that CONCACAF took over the Victory Suite in the northwest corner of the stadium. He also said that, when he went up there in his USA jersey and shorts, he was told that it was a suit-and-tie event. He was also informed that he wasn't on the list to enter.

So, the owner of the team who's hosting the event is denied access to the suite? Ooof.

Pretty sure that will be fixed at some point.

5:35 p.m.

Creepy Tim Howard masks.

5:47 p.m.

Walking the concourse in search of Canadian and Panamanian fans. Found them.

6:01 p.m.

In need of hydration. It's very hot and I'm walking a ton. Mmmmm, Guinness.

6:03 p.m.

Guinness will have to wait until after the game.

6:30 p.m.

Back in the press box. Just in time to watch a dull half of soccer.

7:01 p.m.

Canada and Panama are allegedly playing a soccer game. I've not seen much evidence.

7:02 p.m.

In case you're wondering why the flashy field boards aren't in attendance tonight, that's a CONCACAF rule. Something about a level playing field. It's likely the only time that a Coca-Cola sign will be seen in the Pepsi-only stadium.

Gonna watch this for a bit, then heading back to into the belly of the Member's Stand for more dispatches.

7:11 p.m.

Sporting Club owner Cliff Illig just made a stop in the press box with U.S. soccer federation president Sunil Gulati.

7:27 p.m. A Cristiano Ronaldo shirt?
