The Full 90

TMK: Rocastle injured in Gold Cup, USA ready to step up

It's going to be a brief Morning Kickoff today boys and girls. It's business time at Livestrong Sporting Park and I'm going to be doing work today out there at The Legends. But don't worry about me -- I'm doing all of this for you.

Three Sporting Kansas City players saw their first Gold Cup action last night:

Shavar Thomas went 90 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Craig Rocastle's Grenada.

Rocastle was injured after a nasty collision and had to be subbed off. Fantastic.

Roger Espinoza was forced to sit on the bench and watch a dull 0-0 draw between Honduras and Guatemala.

The big game tonight is the USA vs. Canada at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Yanks will be looking to rebound from the Spanish beatdown they received on Saturday.

Landon Donovan, who missed Saturday's game, is expected to start.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel.

With a full-strength squad, the United States needs to step up and win this tournament on its home soil.

My best guess at the USA Starting XI -- GK: Tim Howard; DEF: Steve Cherundolo, Clarence Goodson, Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra; MID: Landon Donovan, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Clint Dempsey; FWD: Jozy Altidore, Juan Agudelo.

This is an excellent teaser video for the USA. Get pumped

The other Group C game will feature Sporting KC's Stephane Auvray and Guadeloupe taking on Panama at 5 p.m.

KC's professional soccer roots trace back to NASL and the Spurs.
Former Wizard defender Nick Garcia will be training with Sporting this evening, according to a source.

My best guess is that a Garcia trial fits for two reasons: 1) He's local and a known quantity and 2) With Shavar Thomas away on Gold Cup duty, Sporting are down to just three fit central defenders.

This wouldn't be the first time the team took a flier on a local guy. Seth Sinovic went from out of the league to No. 2 left back.
