Sporting Kansas City is expected to announce early next week that it will play a doubleheader of sorts on Oct. 15 at Livestrong Sporting Park.
After Sporting takes on the Red Bulls at 3 p.m., the Kansas City Blues rugby team will play a league game against an opponent to be determined. That match likely will start at 7 p.m.
"We played a few times at Arrowhead after Wizards matches, but the last one was three or four years ago," said Pete Kowalski of the Blues. "Those were great opportunities. I think this one will be even better. To play in a smaller stadium. A place like that is going to be incredible."
The Blues currently train and play games at Sporting Kansas City's practice facility at Swope Park. The Blues would love to continue to be associated with Sporting in the future, Kowalski said.
When the team changed from the Wizards to Sporting Kansas City, the club's owners talked of having other sports/clubs under the umbrella of their new name.
