The news yesterday, I'm sure you've heard, is that
Farm Aid is coming to Livestrong Sporting Park.
The concert, the first announced at the new stadium, will be Saturday, Aug. 13. Sporting KC is scheduled to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy that same night. Obviously, it will move... but where?
The team hasn't released details on its plans, but a source told the Backpost
the game will "likely" be moved to Aug. 11th.
I'm all for cool, name events at Livestrong Sporting Park. But I'm not a lot less interested if it means more mid-week games -- I'm a lot less interested if, as happened twice last year, the rescheduled mid-week game isn't televised.
How do you feel about swapping a Saturday night for a mid-week game
MLSsoccer.com has a Q with Sporting KC's Kevin Ellis.
It's a good read, but fails to ask him the most important question: When did teammates start calling you Danny Alves? And, do you like that comparison? (I guess it's up to me to ask that question.)
• In the three MLS games last night, there was only one winner and five goals.
Philadelphia scored a late equalizer to draw with Los Angeles.
>>Expect to read more incarnations of this story this year:
Beckham has been a major disappointment for MLS.
The media is restless.
Vancouver also scored a late equalizer to pull even at 1-1 with San Jose.
A controversial penalty lifted Dallas past Toronto 1-0.
• FC Dallas is up to something (a new player signing?) and
manager Schellas Hyndman has shut out the media.
MLS has suspended Chivas USA's Marcos Mondaini for four games and fined him $1,250 for his ankle-shattereing horror tackle on Real Salt Lake's Jaiver Morales.
Colorado's Brian Mullan was suspended for 10 games for a similar leg-destroying tackle on Seattle's Steve Zakuani. Inconsistent?
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish signs new three-year contract.
Good call for Liverpool, he's really done a remarkable turn-around job.
• Can Manchester City end its 35-year trophy drought?
The FA Cup Final against Stoke City is this weekend.
Barcelona has won La Liga.
It only took 8 months to get around to making that official.
Careful Sergio Ramos with that patched-up Copa del Rey trophy!
Celtic coach Neil Lennon (who has been the subject of a few threats this year) was attacked by a fan during the team's 3-0 victory over Hearts.
The win keep's Celtic in the Scottish title hunt, but that was pretty much over-shadowed.
Bayern Munich appear to have won the lottery for Schalke's breakout goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
It's hard to have a cup final when the players walk off the field.
• One of my favorite writers on the planet, ESPN's Wright Thompson,
on the scary security concerns in Brazil
. Grab a cup of coffee and a snack, it's a long (but great) read.
• A few games today: Nottingham Forest vs. Swansea City in the Championship playoffs (1:30 p.m., Fox Soccer Plus) and Chivas vs. UNAM Pumas (7 p.m., Telemundo).
