Sporting Kansas City earned its first reserve league victory today, toppling Real Salt Lake 2-0 at the Swope Park Training Center. The man of the match was Chance Myers, who played on the right wing, and netted two nice goals and could've had at least two more.
Sporting are now 1-1-0 in the Central/Mountain Conference.
Myers, the former No. 1 overall draft pick, got the action started in the opening with a shot that was barely tipped over the bar by Salt Lake's goalkeeper Tim Melia. He got his first goal in the 30th minute off a Milos Stojcev free kick just outside the box. He doubled the scoreline in the 44th minute after rookie forward CJ Sapong fought off two Salt Lake defenders and delivered the ball to the penalty spot for Myers.
Kansas City dominated possession in the first half and held Salt Lake's reserves in check with only a few troubling shots by Nelson Gonzalez.
