Goalkeeper Jon Kempin, Sporting Kansas City's first Homegrown player, will join the U.S. U-18 national team later this month in Portland, Ore. Kempin is one of two professional players in camp, the other is Chicago's Victor Pineda.
The U-18s will compete in a friendly against the Portland Timbers on April 19 and a pair of friendlies on April 23 against the University of Portland and the University of Washington.
But Kempin isn't the only one getting a national team call-up: The U.S. Women's U-20 national team invited midfielders Kaysie Clark (Liberty) and Mandy Laddish (Notre Dame; Lee's Summit), and forward Shea Groom (Liberty). The three young women will participate in a training camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., from April 23-30.
Congratulations are in order for Kempin, Clark, Laddish and Groom. Good luck wearing the red, white and blue.
