Sporting KC reserves fall 1-0 to Houston

In the first reserve-league action of the 2011 season, Sporting Kansas City fell 1-0 to the Houston Dynamo at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

The lone goal came a 67th-minute freekick from Francisco Navas Cobo that was re-directed by Jason Garey.

Kansas City featured several well-known players, including goalkeeper Eric Kronberg, defender Shavar Thomas and midfielders Luke Sassano, Craig Rocastle, Graham Zusi and Stephane Auvray. Two academy players, Nate Opperman and Wes White saw action at forward. Homegrown rightback Kevin Ellis played the full 90. The rest of KC's lineup included defender Mike Jones, leftback Scott Lorenz and midfielder Korede Aiyegbusi.

Two trialists also featured for KC: Comets forward and Major Indoor Soccer League MVP Byron Alvarez and Bolivan attacking midfielder

Gualberto Mojica

. Both came on as second-half subs.

The only two players who traveled but didn't see action: Homegrown 'keeper Jon Kempin and academy defender Konner Knoll.

Sporting Kansas City are 0-1-0 in the Central/Midwest division of the reserve league.
