Sporting KC romp in the Desert Cup, top Sahuaros 6-1

And then there were goals. Plenty of goals.

In the first game of the MLS Desert Cup in warm and breezy Tucson, Ariz., a Sporting Kansas City team packed with second-teamers walloped the Arizona Sahuaros 6-1.

The opening goal came in the 35th minute when recent signee Mike Jones met fellow recent signee Scott Lorenz's corner. Supplemental draft pick Michal Mravec doubled the lead in the 53rd minute.

KC's first-round pick, C.J. Sapong, scored his second goal of the preseason just three minutes later. Chance Myers (77th) scored on a breakaway with an assist from Graham Zusi; Zusi scored in the 83rd with Myers returning the favor to pick up the assist.

Trialist Sinisa Ubiparipovic (who was recently waived by the New York Red Bulls) rounded out the scoring in the final minutes.
