Sporting News: KC signs Warzycha, will add new announcer in '11

signing its third-round pick Konrad Warzycha.

He is recovering from surgery to fix a femoral condyle defect in his right knee and will begin the season on injured reserve.

He brings the roster to 24 players as of right now.

“Signing my first contract is a dream come true,” said Warzycha, son of Columbus Crew head coach, Robert. “This is something that has been a goal of mine ever since I was a little kid and to finally be able to say I am a professional soccer player is surreal.”

In other news, Sporting Kansas City will have a new TV voice for the 2011 season. It just hasn't been officially announced yet.

In a it-could-only-happen-on-Twitter turn of events, the cat got out of the bag earlier this morning when Mike Illig (son of principle OnGoal executive Cliff Illig) congratulated @CalWilliams (BBC correspondent Callum Wiliams) on getting his U.S. work visa. That was, kind of interesting in its own right. Williams then tweeted (which has since been removed) that he will be joining Sporting Kansas City on March 15 as a presenter and commentator for the team's TV broadcasts.

A source confirmed that Williams will be joining Sporting KC as the lead announcer for TV (and has quite an interesting tale of how he got here). I do not know if he will be joined by color-commentator Sasha Victorine.

As soon as more details are available, we'll get them to you.
