The Morning Kickoff is your start-the-day-right collection of stories, opinions, news and videos from around the globe. We scour the Web, you click the link. We're still working on our tagline.

The roster compliance deadline is less than a week away, and with plenty of trialists/draftees in camp and there two pre-seaon games on the docket for Saturday (Portland Timbers at 12 p.m., Montreal Impact at 1:30 p.m.), the Sporting Kansas City roster should start taking shape any day now. I expect to know more just before or just after Saturday's games.

Now, a very Sporting News-heavy kickoff...

that took place in KC last weekend. The Sporting KC Juniors USA team wont he High School division.

MLS Lightning Round!

Major League Soccer continued its attempt to make the MLS Cup a participation trophy (56% of the league qualifies for the playoffs), but at least they made some progress

with the new post-season format.

Does this format end (once and for all) the possibility of a single-table structure?

If you've got ESPN3.com, you can catch the Disney Pro Soccer Classic tonight. Orlando City (featuring Full 90 favorite Lance Watson!) takes on FC Dallas at 5 p.m. and Toronto FC and the Houston Dynamo meet at 7 p.m.

The Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls drew 1-1 last night

, with Chicago breaking out the 3-5-2.

A college football game scheduled for RFK during the MLS season has DC United worried.

Maybe this explains why Revolution captain Shalrie Joseph was dismissed from the team's training camp:

He was arrested for trespassing at an Orlando hotel.

Global Lightning Round!

UEFA probes Marseille and Man United for fan behavior. Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Plovdiv sacrificed a lamb on its home field to improve its performances.
