The Morning Kickoff: Sporting vs. Sporting, Portuguese midfielder not KC bound?

Sporting Kansas City will face their greatest enemy this afternoon: Themselves. I imagine it's a lot like the

Jean-Claude Van Damme movie "Double Impact."

Or, maybe it's just an intra-squad scrimmage today in Arizona (starting at noon, for updates follow

this man on Twitter

) Man, I hope there aren't any red cards in that game.

It appears Portuguese attacking midfielder Rui Miguel might have been one of the attacking midfielders KC had their eyes on. It also

appears that he's going to Russia.

(Link is in Portuguese.)

Whatever happened to former MLS star (and former KC player) Mark Chung?

Well, he moved to South Florida and is the president of HotPie, a company that makes

Jamaican patties.

It was kind of Alanis Morisette ironic to see that story yesterday, as I'm reading

Beau Dure's history of MLS

and his name had just come up.

A few KC-related stories worth clicking:

Davy Arnaud sets sights high for SKC in 2011

Is David Beckham's training stint with Tottenham more than just a training stint? Like, is it part of a

"strategic alliance" between the Galaxy and Spurs?

Yesterday's MLS preseason action:

Portland and Los Angeles drew 1-1

...

Vancouver topped Columbus 2-1.

Speaking of Portland,

Kenny Cooper will join the team on Thursday.

Nicolas Anelka to MLS?

Not so fast.

Aston Villa defender and American Eric Lichaj

has been loaned to Leeds United to get more playing time.

Another American defender, Gale Agbossoumonde, is also

on the move with a six-month loan to Swedish side Durgarden. El Salvador have been kicked out of the CONCACAF U-20 championship.

Why? They used an ineligible American. There's a joke there that I just won't make.

Unfortunate: Barcelona defender Dani Alves

says racial abuse persists in Spain.

Dutch legend and former Los Angeles Galaxy (that's three Galaxy stories in one kickoff, what is this an LA blog now?)

Ruud Gullit arrived in Chechnya to take over Terek Grozny.

Calling back to the beginning of this post, that's where Portugal midfielder Rui Miguel might be headed. That's unplanned synergy folks!

A few fantastic misses.

And this is purely stunning from Marlon de Jesus...

I think Kei Kamara is off the hook for good now.

Don't forget, it's an international date with plenty of games on.
