11 local soccer players receive All-American honors

I mentioned last week how Sporting KC's goalkeeper Jon Kempin was named to the NSCAA Youth All-American team. It has been brought to my attention that he was not the only local soccer player honored by the National Soccer Coaches of America Association.

Five KC area players were named to NSCAA High School All-American team. On the boys side, Nick Besler (senior at Blue Valley West) and Ray Lee (senior, Park Hill) were both named. Liberty Senior High girls Kaysie Clark (junior) and Shea Groom (junior) and Haley Fritzlen (junior at Notre Dame de Sion) were also All-Amerians.

There were five NSCAA women's college All-Americans as well:

NCAA Division I Women: All-Great Lakes Region

• Alison Gasparovic (Jr., Indiana State), Overland Park, second team All-American

NCAA Division I Women: All-Northeast Region

• Lauren Fowlkes (Jr., Notre Dame), Lee's Summit, first team All-American

• Amanda Laddish, Fr., Notre Dame), Lee's Summit, third team All-American

NCAA Division I Women: All-Central Region

• Elizbeth Simonin (Jr., Memphis), Lee's Summit, first team All-American

• Morgan Marlborough (So., Nebraska), Lee's Summit, first team All-American

• Jordan Jackson (So., Nebraska), Overland Park, third team All-American

Congrats to all 11 young athletes for receiving this honor.
