Sporting Kansas City leaves defensive stalwart and fan-favorite defender Jimmy Conrad exposed in the MLS expansion draft. Also left unprotected: forwards Josh Wolff, Sunil Chhetri, and Birahim Diop, and defenders Chance Myers and Shavar Thomas.
In a somewhat surprising development, Jack Jewsbury was protected, as was Overland Park-native Matt Besler.
Here's the full protected list for Kansas City:
Teal Bunbury (Generation adidas)
Jon Kempin (Homegrown Player)
That leaves Korede Aiyegbusi, Jamar Beasley, Chhetri, Conrad, Diop, Zoltan Hercegfalvi, Aaron Hohlbein, Nikos Kounenakis, Eric Kronberg, Jonathan Leathers, Myers, Thomas and Wolff open for selection by Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps in Wednesday's expansion draft. (Sorry, had the wrong date.)
A few notable players available left exposed: New York's Juan Pablo Angel, former Kansas City designated player Claudio Lopez, FC Dallas midfielder Dax McCarty and Columbus star Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
The expansion draft begins at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Thoughts? It's pretty much the list I posted this morning (finally, some correct predictions!), with the notable change of protecting Jewsbury (who is a very useful player for any team) over Chhetri (unproven, probably won't be picked anyway).
