Dallas, on the strength of another gem by former Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, absolutely dominated league-toppers Los Angeles on Sunday. Colorado pushed past the surprise San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.
Now, the fourth-seed in the playoffs will face the seventh-seed for the MLS Cup this Sunday in Toronto (7:30 p.m. on ESPN2).
While these two teams might not be the sexy picks, it's hard to argue with their body of work. On the season, Dallas and Colorado combined for 24 wins and 24 draws. There were only six teams to have single-digit losses, Dallas and Colorado were among them (with four and eight losses respectively). Both teams also had double-digit goal differential, and only four teams managed to accomplish that (Los Angeles and Salt Lake were the others).*
And, yet again, a team with a designated player
win the MLS Cup.
More importantly, I was .500 on my Conference Finals prediction: I nailed Dallas, lost San Jose. I still think the Schellas Hyndman (and his stylish jacket) will hoist the MLS Cup. Kevin Hartman will be the man of the match.
Who do you think will win the Cup? Do you think either of these two teams are worthy Cup contenders?
