I'm not very good at predictions. As I'm sure I'll always be reminded, I picked Greece to advance out of their group in the World Cup this year and I tipped Chance Myers as a break-out player for the Wizards at the beginning of the year. I’m in the process of losing a bet about “@$#% My Day Says” being cancelled before Thanksgiving and swallowing a San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl pick.
But yet... I still made predictions ahead of the MLS playoffs last week. Let's review how I did and maybe make a few more predictions before the second leg begins this evening with San Jose traveling to New York.My prediction: Salt Lake will defeat Dallas on penalty kicks.
This just in: Salt Lake is good at home. I think Salt Lake wins this weekend 1-0 and the round still goes to PKs. (Next game: Sat., 9 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel.)
I was good on this one. The Red Bulls squeaked a 1-0 away victory. They'll lock things down at home. (Next game: Tonight, 7 p.m. on ESPN2.)My predictions: Colorado will expose Columbus and punish them.
This match-up is far from over, but I still don't think the Crew have enough to see off Colorado. (Next game: Sat., 3 p.m. on Telefutura.)My predictions: Seattle will "upset" Los Angeles.
Look, I hated making this prediction. Hated it. I hated saying that the Sounders would realize their destiny and win the entire MLS Cup too. Now I really hate it, considering the Galaxy left Seattle on Sunday with a 1-0 victory and full control going back to LA. But away goals don’t count in the wacky MLS Playoffs. The Sounders have enough to get through this. (Next game: Sun., 8 p.m. on ESPN.)
So, if you’re keeping track at home (and I assume you aren’t), I’m holding strong on 2, wavering on 1 and behind on the other. I still think Seattle has enough.
