Smith enjoying his time in KC

MLS had a good story up today about the Wizards left winger Ryan Smith and his adjustment to Kansas City. Cliff note's version: He loves playing this style of football.

Here's the best part:

But after bouncing around the lower levels of English soccer without finding the right fit for his talents, the skillful, yet mercurial, winger has found a home in Kansas City.

“This has probably been one of the best experiences I’ve had so far in my career,” the 23-year-old Smith said, “if not the best.”

...

“It’s tough to enjoy your football when the manager doesn’t want you or the team to play a certain way when you believe in a different way,” Smith said. “You come in here and [Vermes] wants us to play. That’s perfect for me, and that’s why I have been able to do quite well here.”

It's

a good read.

In other news...

• Shavar Thomas. Kei Kamara. Roger Espinoza. Those are the only three players for KC that have been called up for national team duty.

Teal Bunbury wasn't included in Canada's team

.

• The injury reports for KC and LA feature a few expected players: Zoltan and David Beckham are out; Todd Dunivant and Gregg Berhalter are questionable.

• The Wizards are competing with other MLS teams for a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh grant. Their idea is to help build youth soccer fields in Belvedere Park so kids will have a positive and safe place to soccer.

• Sorry for the slow down in content the past few days (if you've picked up The Star recently and seen the coverage of the KC school district, that is what's been eating my time) and especially the lack of content today (blame my dentist, I had to have a root canal). Thanks to all who continue to read and click on to The Full 90 every day. You're continued patronage is greatly (seriously, greatly) appreciated.
