Double dose of news this afternoon: Kansas City missed out on U.S. international Sal Zizzo as a weighted lottery led him to Chivas USA and there are now $20 upper bowl tickets for the Manchester United-Kansas City Wizards game at Arrowhead.
Chivas, who had the third best chance (behind Kansas City and DC United) in the lottery, landed Zizzo, a 23-year-old U.S. youth international. He went to UCLA and is from California. Zizzo, who started all five matches for the USA at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, had been playing in Germany since 2007 until his contract with Hannover 96 expired this summer. His stay in the Bundesliga was marred by a left knee injury suffered during training in October 2009.
Locally, the Wizards and Chiefs announced Wednesday that additional upper-level tickets have been released for Sunday's friendly with Manchester United. The tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or at any area Ticketmaster outlet. Special packages are also available through the Kansas City Wizards and can be purchased by calling 1-888-4KC-GOAL.
"Fan response for our match against Manchester United has been tremendous,” Wizards President Robb Heineman said. “The great crowd we are expecting Sunday will reinforce that Kansas City is a premier soccer city and that the New Arrowhead Stadium will make an ideal host venue if the FIFA World Cup comes to the United States in 2018 or 2022."
