Goalkeeper emerged when scoring goals lost its lure

When he was 12 and still grasping the finer points of soccer, Jon Kempin decided he no longer wanted to score goals.

While watching his older brother play, Kempin admired the manner in which goalies not only made saves and collected cheers, but also how they kept their teams in games.

So Kempin, a goal scorer on his youth teams, left behind his offensive ways and jumped in front of the net as a goalkeeper. Now a senior-to-be at Blue Valley North, it appears he made the right choice.
