Local soccer notes: KCW Juniors in the playoffs, Thomas signs with new Swedish club

Couple of belated items of note in the KC soccer landscape: The KCW Juniors U-16 squad is currently competing for a spot in the Final 8 of the US Development Academy Playoffs (they are 1-1 with a date with Chivas USA today). In professional news, Olathe's Michael Thomas has signed with Swedish club Ljungskile.

The U-16 team lost 2-1 to Baltimore Bays on Friday, then beat the Dallas Texans 1-0 on Saturday. The games are in Greensboro, N.C. Both KCW goals were scored by Jordan Rideout (who has a

pretty slick 'do

for this cup). They are taking on Chivas USA's U-16 team today. For updates, check out

In Europe, Olathe native Michael Thomas has signed with a new club, Ljungskile, in Sweden. Thomas began the year with Hamlstads BK, but was released earlier this month. He is signed through the end of the season.

To the best of my knowledge, there are two KC area players playing professionally, Thomas and our own Matt Besler. I don't believe there are any KC natives in the WPS. If you know of any others that we should be tracking or may have missed, please leave them in the comments.
