The Full 90

What we learned today

The winner:

North Korea. How can a team that lost be the day’s winner? Who expected North Korea to give Brazil such fits? North Korea won’t advance from its group, but it won’t be a push-over for the Ivory Coast or Portugal.

The loser:

Slovakia. A defensive breakdown cost Slovakia a chance to take the lead in Group F. The two points that Slovakia threw away may cost them after they face Italy and Paraguay.

Best goal:

Was it a shot? Was it a cross? Who cares? Brazil’s Maicon opened the scoring against North Korea with what may well end up being the goal of the tournament.

Watch party update:

Rudy’s Tenampa Restaurante, 1611 Westport Road in Kansas City, will be showing the Mexico-France game on Thursday. Le Fou Frog, 400 East 5th Street, will be showing the game as well, but will be rooting for the French.

Random thoughts:

It’s just plain fun being able to watch three games a day. Doesn’t matter if you use the DVR or watch it live, there’s soccer aplenty. ... Sure it rained like mad, but who expected the Ivory Coast and Portugal to play to a scoreless tie? ... Wonder what Roger Espinoza will do tomorrow. Hope the Wizards player gets into the game. ... Feel free to leave your thoughts on the day’s games.
