Quotes on a thrashing

What the players and coaches had to say after last night's 3-0 trashing of the Kansas City Wizards by the Houston Dynamo.

KANSAS CITY HEAD COACH PETER VERMES On playing down a man:

“It’s not easy. What I would say is we finished off the half still being a man down and being down a goal and that was our chance to come back in at halftime and put something together for the second half. The opportunity was that we were going to try and come out and get a goal and obviously when you do that you open yourself up to a second goal and unfortunately that’s what happened.”

KANSAS CITY MIDFIELDER DAVY ARNAUD
On the game:

“I thought up until the red card the game was pretty even. They got the first goal and had a couple decent looks but at the same time we had a couple real decent chances.”

On his red card:

“You get a red card playing away from home, there’s a good possibility you aren’t walking out of here with result you want. It completely changed the game 30 minutes in.”

KANSAS GOALKEEPER JIMMY NIELSEN On the game:

We created a couple good chances but were not sharp enough to score the goals. When we had a man sent off 1-0 down it’s very difficult and today even if we had 10 men, we can expect a little more from us. It was not a good performance from our team today. Sometimes you have these games where the things don’t go your way and this was one of those games.

HOUSTON HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR On the game:

“I’m very happy, great turn around from last week, the guys were happy. We had a red card go in our favor, and we took advantage of it. We created a lot of chances and I’m happy for the guys to come out with a shutout. Any time the team wins, you’re happy for all the guys who are involved.”

HOUSTON MIDFIELDER SAMMY APPIAH On his first MLS goal:

“I wanted to thank everybody for accepting me. The coaches have been really supportive. And I fit in, so I wanted to thank everyone for such a great opportunity and thank them for having me here.”
