The semifinal pairings would be the winner of Lyon-Bordeaux vs. Manchester Utd-Bayern and Arsenal-Barca winner versus the Milan-CSKA winner. ... In case you missed it, and I'm sure you probably haven't, American Clint Dempsey scored a wonder goal yesterday in the Europa League for Fulham. (It propelled the team into the quarters of that competition and capped a remarkable 5-4 aggregate win over Juventus.) If he's healthy, I feel loads better about the USA's World Cup chances.

Afternoon Update: It's a game day (sorta)

Headed out in a little bit to catch my first Wizards action this year. I'm eagerly looking forward to see the new boys in action. However, I'm not looking forward to the impending temperature drop. Forty-degree temperature fluctuations still freak me out. More updates, including news on Kaysie Clark and the USA Women's U-17 team after the jump. ... Steven Goff's Soccer Insider reports that the MLS and the Player's Union were in talks until 2 a.m. (EST) last night. Let's hope they work throughout the weekend and get things ironed out before Monday. A strike would kill whatever momentum the MLS has. ...
