The Full 90

Afternoon Update: It's a game day (sorta)

Headed out in a little bit to catch my first Wizards action this year. I'm eagerly looking forward to see the new boys in action. However, I'm not looking forward to the impending temperature drop. Forty-degree temperature fluctuations still freak me out. More updates, including news on Kaysie Clark and the USA Women's U-17 team after the jump. ... Steven Goff's Soccer Insider

reports that the MLS and the Player's Union were in talks until 2 a.m. (EST) last night

. Let's hope they work throughout the weekend and get things ironed out before Monday. A strike would kill whatever momentum the MLS has. ... Also in that post, Goff links to a

Columbus Dispatch story about Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt

(he still an investor-operator of the Columbus Crew and FC Dallas) and his take on the labor situation. His money quote:

"A strike would cause ownership to become more entrenched in our positions," Hunt said, citing the Hunt, Anschutz and Kraft families. "Looking back at all the struggles we’ve had I can say that we would have a very hard time accepting it."

... Bad news from the CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship, as Liberty's Kaysie Clark and the USA ladies

lost out to Canada on penalty kicks

. Great, yet another thing those notoriously cocky Canadian athletic supporters can lord over us. ... Completely missed this the other day, but Clark had

a nice postcard from Costa Rica

about some team pranks, her experiences and her new and strange nickname. I hope we get a chance to see more from Kaysie in the future. ... Champions League quarterfinal match-ups were announced today. They are: Lyon-Bordeaux, Manchester United-Bayern Munich, Arsenal-Barcelona, Inter Milan-CSKA Moscow. The semifinal pairings would be the winner of Lyon-Bordeaux vs. Manchester Utd-Bayern and Arsenal-Barca winner versus the Milan-CSKA winner.... In case you missed it, and I'm sure you probably haven't, American Clint Dempsey scored a wonder goal yesterday in the Europa League for Fulham. (It propelled the team into the quarters of that competition and capped a remarkable 5-4 aggregate win over Juventus.)

If he's healthy, I feel loads better about the USA's World Cup chances.
